Your bedroom SHOULD be your sanctuary, a place where you can escape the stresses of the day and truly unwind. But with the demands of modern life, for many that's rarely the case! It can be easy for our bedrooms to become cluttered, chaotic spaces that hinder rather than promote relaxation.

Let's change that!

Transforming your bedroom into a tranquil haven isn't as difficult than you might think. By incorporating a few key elements and establishing simple habits, you can create a space that promotes restful sleep and rejuvenation.

Here's how:

Start with the Basics: Daily Habits for a Tranquil Space

Believe it or not, the simplest daily habits can have a profound impact on the overall atmosphere of your bedroom.

Here are a few that I've done that I think you should consider:

1. Make Your Bed Every Morning

This seemingly small act can set the tone for the entire day. Making your bed not only creates a sense of order and accomplishment but also makes the entire room feel tidier and more inviting. Studies have shown that people who make their beds daily are more likely to get a good night's sleep and report feeling less stressed.

There are also many other benefits of responsibility that this simple act creates, this is why Jordan's Peterson's book 12 Rules for Life even mentions it!

2. Do a Weekly Deep Clean

Dedicate time each week to thoroughly clean your bedroom. This includes vacuuming or mopping the floors, dusting all surfaces, and changing your sheets. A clean and fresh space promotes a sense of calm and well-being, essential for a relaxing bedroom environment. Make time once a week and get it done!

You won't regret it, I promise. :)

3. Conduct a Clothing Audit

Overstuffed drawers and closets can contribute to a feeling of chaos and clutter. Regularly audit your wardrobe and get rid of any clothes you no longer wear or need. This will free up space and make it easier to find what you're looking for, reducing stress and promoting a sense of order.

Upgrade Your Sleep Essentials

4. Invest in a Quality Mattress

Your mattress is the foundation of your sleep sanctuary. If your current mattress is old, uncomfortable, or causing you aches and pains, it's time for an upgrade. Consider your sleeping position, any specific health concerns, and your personal preferences when choosing a new mattress. A good mattress can significantly improve your sleep quality and overall well-being.

We recently upgraded to a Purple Plus Mattress and it's been a game changer for sleep! My brother recently got the Helix Midnight Elite Memory Foam Mattress and he's been raving about it. So that may be next on the list!

5. Upgrade Your Sheets & Pillows

The feel of your sheets against your skin can greatly impact your sleep quality. Invest in high-quality sheets made from natural, breathable materials like cotton or linen. These materials help regulate temperature and provide a luxurious feel, contributing to a more comfortable and restful sleep.

For your next pillow, get the Knockout Pillow from Pillow-Fight; there a reason they have 4.8 / 5 stars!

Optimize Your Bedroom Environment

6. Choose Calming Colors and Textures

The colors and textures in your bedroom play a significant role in setting the mood. Opt for calming colors like soft blues, greens, or lavenders, which are known for their relaxing properties. We did a soft green in our bedroom on a board & batten accent wall and we love it!

Incorporate soft, tactile fabrics like linen, velvet, or wool to add warmth and comfort. Layering different textures and patterns can create visual interest while maintaining a sense of calm.

7. Lighting is Key

Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a relaxing atmosphere. Incorporate layered lighting that includes ambient, task, and accent lighting. Ambient lighting provides overall illumination, while task lighting is focused for activities like reading. Accent lighting can highlight artwork or architectural features, adding a touch of elegance to the space - check out some of these unique accent lighting options from Amazon!

Consider using dimmable lights to adjust the brightness according to your needs. Soft, warm lighting creates a cozy and inviting ambiance, perfect for unwinding in the evening. Avoid harsh, overly bright lighting, especially before bedtime, as it can interfere with your sleep cycle.

8. Purify the Air

An air purifier can significantly improve the air quality in your bedroom, removing dust, allergens, and other pollutants that can interfere with sleep and overall well-being. This is especially beneficial for those with allergies or respiratory sensitivities.

We have 3 different air purifiers in our house right now:

Let us know in the comments which air purifiers you're using!

9. Disconnect from Technology

In today's digital age, it's essential to create a space where you can disconnect from technology and unwind. Make your bedroom a tech-free zone by removing electronic devices or keeping them out of sight on a charging station out of reach. This will help you relax and prepare for sleep without the distractions of screens and notifications.

10. Create a Cozy Corner

Dedicate a corner of your bedroom to relaxation and self-care. This could be a comfortable armchair with a soft throw blanket, a reading nook with a bookshelf, or a meditation space with a yoga mat and cushions. Having a designated area for relaxation encourages you to take time for yourself and unwind.

Enhance Convenience and Functionality

11. Nightstand with Outlets

Upgrade your nightstand to one with built-in outlets or a charging station. This allows you to conveniently charge your phone and other devices while keeping cords organized and out of sight. Just be sure you're not constantly looking at your phone as this can hinder your brain getting ready for sleep.

Conclusion

By incorporating these elements and establishing simple habits, you can transform your bedroom into a relaxing sanctuary that promotes restful sleep and rejuvenation. Remember to personalize the space to reflect your own preferences and create an environment that truly feels like your own personal haven.
